I have noticed that almost all the lectures in this course are inseparable from the application of digital technology in fashion. AI is the most mentioned, and there is also virtual reality technology.
I was not originally interested in digital technologies, but when they are mentioned and applied more and more, it indicates that this is a trend of the times, which makes me start to think about whether I should learn about them. And I remember that I used to draw sketches on paper, but now I prefer to use iPads for drawing, which is also a sign of digital products replacing traditional industries. Therefore, I have decided to understand what digital fashion encompasses, as well as their significance and drawbacks.
The emergence of AI and digital software such as clo3d has actually facilitated clothing producers. Although many people are concerned that the emergence of AI may replace designers, in reality, it is the users who determine what AI will become. AI requires users to feed it images and design styles in order to generate the design that users need. In addition, it also needs to be filtered and adjusted. In the fashion industry, products produced through AI still require users to make physical products and adjust them to achieve the final effect.
Compared to CAD and traditional pattern cutting, Clo3D can directly design and verify patterns in software without the need to make physical samples, which not only saves costs but also greatly improves work efficiency. Real time process analysis and visual management enable users to display and adjust cutting, process, and pattern positions in a virtual environment, improving design accuracy and efficiency. And it also reduces waste during the debugging process, promotes sustainable development, and protects the environment.
The metaverse composed of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) is currently a popular trend in digital fashion.
VR can provide scene simulation, where designers can simulate different social situations by creating different scenes. They can also change scene design styles, share design and production processes, hold virtual fashion shows, and allow consumers to experience different experiences firsthand. This allows consumers to better understand the designer's ideas and clothing craftsmanship, create interactive and immersive experiences for customers, and attract their attention.
AR can provide virtual fitting services, making it convenient for customers to try on at any time and in any environment. There is no need to go to the store to try on or purchase and try on online, reducing the time and money costs for consumers. Consumers can also create their favorite digital character images and try them on, providing them with a technological simulation experience.
These digital technologies can also be used to design some anti physics clothing and unique creations, bringing consumers a novel experience.
Digital fashion not only reduces manufacturing waste during garments experimentation, but also reduces transportation costs and resource consumption and environmental pollution during transportation, which is beneficial for sustainable development.
For some consumers who purchase clothing for the purpose of taking photos and sharing, purchasing digital fashion can reduce clothing waste and make a contribution to sustainable development.
But the downside is that digital fashion cannot give people a real sense of touch. People cannot feel the delicacy and roughness of materials, nor can they truly feel the touch of some traditional crafts.
